ROLE

Animation, Design

We were thrilled when State Design was approached by the production team responsible for this Netflix docuseries to create the Main Title Sequence for their new show about the 90s hit series American Gladiators.

We immersed ourselves in the show’s concept and some of its most iconic contests of power and dexterity for our design process. That way, we carefully crafted a design direction that would encapsulate the unmistakable competition games and the patriotic costumes in the most fluid and energetic way.

The frame-by-frame animations capture the essence of movement and bring the characters to life with incredible expressiveness. The animators could shape every line, every stroke, and every color, resulting in a highly personalized and artistic visual style.

Also, we chose to incorporate 3D for certain elements in some scenes, which brings its own challenges. Achieving a seamless match between 2D and 3D requires meticulous attention to detail, including replicating the specific textures, colors, lighting, and movement styles of the 2D characters interacting with objects of the 3D environment.

I was responsible for some of the 3D camera/object animations, the lookdev for all 3D objects, and also the texture animations.
